Istambul

In our short week in Istanbul, we of course didn’t get to try as much as we would have liked. But here are some highlights of the things we did.

For baklava:

Hafiz Moustafa in Sultanahmet

A famous shop dating whose history dates back to 1864, located just across the road from the Hagia Sofia.

For pastries:

Sweet & Sour Bakery

Located on the Asia side in the Kadiköy district. Not far from a 15km shopping street, so a perfect place to fuel up for a big shopping day. The pistachio-raspberry croissant was flaky, buttery, with a delicious pistachio cream. I’d go back for another one.

Best meal:

The Galeyan restaurant

A surprise of quality in a touristy area, this place was a local recommendation and well worth it. It was our favorite meal in Istanbul. Our vegetarian team got an assortment of mezze: hummus piled with rocket and pomegranate, za’atar salad, muhammara, kuru dolma (dried stuffed veggeis), all served with steamy hot “balloon” bread.
